Description
This beautiful, vintage Turkish Kilim is a wonderful example of Anatolian folk art dating back to the late 20th century. Crafted with hand-spun organic wool on a wool foundation, the rug features a traditional slit-weave technique that gives its geometric patterns a crisp, precise definition. A closer look reveals subtle colour shifts within the same blocks—a coveted effect known as abrash, which occurs naturally when wool is spun and dyed by hand in small, separate batches. The piece beautifully highlights a traditional Anatolian palette, creating watercolour-like transitions using dyes sourced from organic plants and vegetables like madder root, indigo, pomegranate skins, and wild chamomile.
Every shape woven into this stunning kilim carries tribal significance. The large central hexagonal medallions, traditionally woven by a young woman to represent her dowry chest, symbolize her hopes for marriage, family alignment, and a prosperous future home. Incredibly versatile, this Turkish Kilim works beautifully either as an eye-catching wall hanging or as a traditional floor rug, making it a perfect complement to any modern home.
Please note that due to the age of this vintage piece, there are natural signs of wear, including minor holes and slight staining. We invite you to view the provided photographs for a closer look at its unique character.
