Here we have a great example of an antique Indian shrine, this one comes from the gujurat region in North East India.
This shrine has beautiful hand carved details throughout. with the curved corners and balustrades and with the balustrade on the top. The central panel has a large mirror, which opens to reveal two shelves. The side panels are glazed and also have shelves, except one is missing on the left. It has been hand painted yellow, with flecks of blue underneath, the patina on it is fantastic.
It would have been used in a Hindu household to house the family's favourite deity and place offerings on the front shelf. Nowadays it would be the perfect bathroom cabinet.
