Mid 20th Century Japanese Shibori Boro Kimono

This beautiful piece originated in Japan, specifically the Iwate Prefecture, within the Showa Period. What truly makes this kimono stand out are the variety of patches that showcase different colours and patterns. It has a base of indigo-dyed shibori fabric and the addition of the cotton patches accumulated over time. The inside and out hold two different personalities. The inside is a stunning burst of pattern and colour, which is juxtaposed with the beautifully simple indigo base. This kimono would easily be a statement piece in any contemporary home!
