Mid-20th Century Indian Rajasthan Teak Chakla Chapati Rolling Board (3)

An authentic mid-20th-century Indian chapati rolling board, known traditionally as a Chakla. Originating from the Rajasthan region, this piece is hand-carved from durable, dense teakwood. For generations, the Chakla has been an essential and revered tool in Indian households, serving daily as an elevated, smooth circular platform used to roll out traditional flatbreads like chapatis, rotis, and puris.

This specific piece beautifully reflects its rich culinary heritage through a deeply aged, dark patina, natural grain splitting, and a weathered texture that tells the story of decades of daily domestic use. On the underside, a circular integrated block serve as functional stand. Carved directly from the single piece of wood, this piece was engineered to provide maximum stability and elevation during use.

Rajasthani craftsmanship often utilizes teak for its natural resistance to moisture and wear. This expert construction turns a functional, everyday kitchen utensil into a beautifully preserved piece of rustic folk art that perfectly embodies traditional Indian domestic life. Today, it transitions effortlessly into contemporary homes as a soulful, textured accent piece.
