Description

Here is a beautiful 19th-century Chinese export painting, finely executed in watercolour and gouache on delicate pith paper. This exquisite piece portrays a high-status lady seated in traditional, vibrant garments—specifically a rich cobalt-blue robe adorned with intricate gold patterns, a bright orange underskirt, and a contrasting white collar. Given its composition, this artwork was highly likely created and sold as part of a pair, originally meant to hang alongside a matching portrait of her husband seated across the table. The painting is elegantly presented within a wide, dark mat board and housed in a classic glossy black wooden frame behind protective glass. Please note that due to the notoriously fragile nature of pith paper, this antique piece does exhibit some age-related wear.
