Here we have a stunning Kodai Ware Hana-ire (Japanese container use to hold flowers) made from stoneware clay. This piece features a beautiful bulbous silhouette, showcasing the structural technique of Nunome (cloth-weave pattern). This technique is used to create a textile impression, studio potters would achieve this appearance by pressing woven fabric onto the wet clay body creating the appearance of a draped textile. The entire exterior body is defined by dense, rhythmic horizontal ridges wrapping completely around the sphere. Topped with a minimal collar that frames a clean, wide-set mouth designed to anchor weighted floral branches securely. Accompanying the flower vase is a beautiful handmade, paulownia wooden gift box, brushed with calligraphy detailing the type of ware, the artist signature and kiln stamp. This vase would compliment any home, whether utilised for its original purpose or reproposed as a statement piece.
