Here we have a beautiful, late 20th century, Japanese Echizen ware ceramic flower vase accompanied by a wooden gift box (tomobako). The vessel is moulded after a classical Mimikuchi (eared) flower vase, featuring two small loops attached symmetrically near the base of the neck. The main body features a ribbed, wheel-thrown texture with a flared neck and wide rim. This piece showcases a stunning high-fired unglazed body with a glossy, glass like coating over the neck and shoulders occurring from flying wood ash melting. The vase features two removable paper retail labels, the gold oval sticker designates it as certified Echizen ware while the square white sticker confirms that the vessel is entirely handmade. Accompanying the flower vase is a beautiful handmade, paulownia wooden gift box, brushed with calligraphy detailing the type of ware, the artist signature and kiln stamp. This vase would compliment any modern home, especially used for its original purpose.
The dimensions are as follows:
Vase: H: 22cm - W: 11cm - D: 11cm
Gift Box: H: 24.5cm - W: 14.5cm - L: 14.5cm
