This stunning box originated in India and is known as a Tikka box. This box was handcrafted from wood and, due to its age, has a faded deep red colour, apart from the inside which is black with remnants of orange powder. It has a circular shape with a distinct hand-carved lid on top. Originally, it was used to store sacred powders such as kumkum powder or vermillion. They are then used for applying a bindi or tilak on the forehead during religious ceremonies or as a cultural mark.
Nowadays, this box would make a unique jewellery of trinket store.
Dimensions are as follows: H - 17cm, W - 12cm, D - 12cm.
