This beautiful black lacquered box originated in Japan within the Meiji period. It is made from a variety of soft woods which makes it lightweight and easy to move around. It has its original handles but has had the hinges replaced. We believe that this only adds to the quality of this piece. Originally, it would have been used as a general storage box within the home.
Nowadays, it can be used for a similar purpose whilst adding a sense of authenticity and rusticness to your home.
