Description

These late 18th century Indian turban hooks are made from soap stone and has been hand-carved into a peacock. They originated in Dungarpur, India which can be seen through the peacock shape as different animals represent different regions of India. They would have been found in the upper middle class houses of Rajasthan and used daily to hang clothes or turbans on.

The smaller hook: It has traces of polychromed paintwork, especially on the head with a lovely mustard yellow. The intricate carvings truly showcases the quality of this piece.

The larger hook: This hook also showcases polychromed paintwork throughout and contains many hand carvings which emphasise the effort that was put into the hook. 

The dimensions are as follows:

Smaller Hook: H - 10cm, D - 18cm, W - 4.5cm.

Larger Hook: H - 11cm, D - 25cm, W - 5cm.
