This stunning 19th century low table is made from elm and has been hand-carved. It would have originally been an alter table or market table. However, when the legs of tables get damaged they a cut off and used for a different purpose. This specific table could have been used on a kang.
A kang is a traditional heated platform which would have been used for general living, eating, sleeping etc. within the Northern parts of China, where the climate is colder.
Nowadays, it can be used a low coffee table, adding a rustic and oriental feel to your home.
