WOW! This is a big Buddha. Of Thai origin, most likely central Thailand, from the early 20th Century. Its a show stopper, a full size Buddha with intricate carvings from top to bottom.
The Buddha is in the Bhumisparsha Mudra pose, which is also known as the 'Earth Witness Gesture'. It symbolises the moment of enlightenment, connection to the Earth and Unshakeable resolve.
This enormous Buddha has been made from various types of wood, with the most delicate of carvings on his garments and facial features. It really has an air of serenity about it. Imposing, yet calming. Finishing off with the most stunning polychromed paintwork.
Its in very good condition aside from some age related marks but that only adds to its to antiquity.
