Here we have a striking, Japanese Takasaki Daruma Doll dating back to the late 20th Century to early 21st Century. Originating from the Edo period, with local dollmaking gaining massive popularity around 1770 at the Shorinzan Darumaji Temple with the intension of goal setting, perseverance and good luck.
The Goal-Setting Ritual
Step 1: Choose a specific, realistic and meaningful personal goal
Step 2: Paint the left eye black while committing to that specific goal
Step 3: Place the doll somewhere visible in your daily life
Step 4: Paint the right eye black once you have achieved your goal
