Description
An exceptional mid-20th-century Indian cutting board, offering a beautifully preserved piece of functional folk art. Expertly handcrafted from durable native teak wood, these robust blocks were essential to daily meal preparation in regional Indian kitchens, specifically designed to withstand generations of heavy cleaver and knife work.
Teak's natural abundance of protective oils made it the ideal material for resisting moisture, decay, and intense kitchen humidity. Over decades of constant use, the dense hardwood has developed a rich, tactile patina, deep grain patterning, and a gently contoured, organically worn surface that beautifully tells the story of its culinary past.
With its rich texture and warm tones, this sturdy artifact makes a magnificent statement piece in contemporary homes. It sits beautifully on a kitchen countertop as an organic riser to display fresh growing herbs, oils, and salt cellars, or functions as a characterful charcuterie board for entertaining.
