These boxes are traditionally characterized by their lacquerware appearance, typically with a black exterior and a vibrant red interior. Historically served at railway stations these boxes would typically serve sushi, sashimi or traditional side dishes. Handcrafted from wood you can see the dove tail joints, creating a seamless finish. Remarkably this specific bento box is in immaculate condition with only slight scratches on the top of the box and the interior compartment maintains its ability to be removed or slid across. This is a very versatile antique that would suit any modern home, this piece could be adapted to a jewellery box.
