Mid 20th Century 'Kibori Kuma' Japanese Carved Bear (1)

This stunning bear sculpture has been hand-carved and is known as 'Kibori Kuma'. This is a traditional craft of the indigenous Ainu people of Hokkaido, Japan. The style is folk art, and it showcases visible chisel marks, which compliments the dark finish that highlights the wood grain. This specific bear has the fish slung on its back whilst its growling at us. It also has some inscriptions which translate to 'Sounkyo'. We believe this is the creators name. This is an excellent example of Japanese craftsmanship and would compliment any contemporary home beautifully.

The dimensions are as follows: H - 24.5cm, W - 13cm D - 19.5cm.
