This cylindrical jar originated in China during the Han Dynasty (202 BC - 9 AD). It was used as a grain store but also as a funerary object, to offer provisions for the afterlife. The glaze tells us that this pot originated in the earlier Han Dynasty as the brown colour was more common back then, compared to the green glaze that was used later. The wonderful brown glaze is achieved using copper and a lead glaze. This store is supported by 3 legs which seemed to have been carved into lions which, in Chinese culture, represent wisdom and superiority.
Nowadays, this pot would make a lovely addition to any contemporary home, to add a rustic atmosphere.
The dimensions are as follows: H - 25cm, W - 18cm, D - 18cm.
