This stunning piece of paper originated in the early 20th century in Japan. The inner layers are made from recycled paper, possibly older ledgers or documents. This shows how materials were reused with care in the Meiji period. This specific piece we believe is just the top layer, and due to the age it has unfortunately lost its partner. We were not able to translate it accurately, but we believe it is the name of the company or shop that distributed such bags.
Originally, it would have been used to hold Mayubukuro, which are silkworm cocoon balls. Nowadays however, it can be used as a beautiful piece of wall art.
Dimensions are as follows: W - 75.5cm, D - 41.5cm.
