This Japanese Meiji period storage cabinet is a beautiful piece of craftsmanship, with intricate gold painted details on a black lacquered surface. Despite its past use as a workshop storage cabinet, it has been sympathetically restored, with new blacksmith-made handles and a full polish of the lacquer, bringing it to a stunning condition. This cabinet would make a perfect addition to any collector or lover of Japanese antiques.
The Meiji period extended from October 23, 1868 to July 30, 1912. It was during this time and after almost 300 years of Edo period isolation, that the artworks of Japan began to be traded openly with the rest of the world
