Description

Dating back to the mid-20th century, this stunning antique Indian textile printing block is a beautiful example of traditional craftsmanship. Hand-carved from dense, durable teak wood, the piece features a unique, irregular, shield-like organic shape. Over decades of use with water-based dyes, it has aged naturally to develop a deep charcoal-grey patina. Historically, an artisan would press the raised pattern of this block into thick dye or liquid wax, stamping it firmly onto silk or cotton to create seamless, repeating designs across large bolts of cloth. Today, it serves as a striking sculptural accent for the modern home, whether placed on a shelf or mounted as wall art.
