Early 20th Century Indian Teak Agricultural Seed Spreader with Carved Cattle Motif
This stunning, early 20th-century Indian agricultural seed spreader originates from northern India and is beautifully crafted from solid teak. Originally used in traditional farming, this heavy vessel was mounted onto an animal-drawn wooden plough system to distribute seeds across freshly tilled field. The upper basin features a smooth, lathe-turned circular bowl with concentric ridges engraved along the rim, tapering into a funnel with three hand-drilled distribution holes at the bottom. The basin transitions seamlessly into a square block foundation, which is adorned with a hand-carved relief of a cattle motif—traditionally representing Nandi in Hindu mythology. Boasting a rich, dark-honey patina and a dry, historic texture that beautifully portrays a century of age, this unique piece would perfectly complement any modern home, particularly when repurposed as a pillar candle holder or a sculptural desk accessory.
