A traditional Chinese Wedding Box from the late 19th Century, in very good condition. The original red lacquer is still vibrant, as with the green painted leaves and there even are still remnants of gold leaf.
Its a decent size basket that would have been used for bringing gifts to newlyweds. The handle is extremely elaborate, depicting two fish and a deer carvings. You can also make out a song bird painted on the removable lid, as well as flora. The metal work; the banding and clasp are original and in great condition. The wood has chipped on the handle side, which is accounted for in its price.
It would make a fab statement piece in the modern home, a great little curio.
