This beautiful, vintage Turkish Kilim is a wonderful example of Anatolian folk art, dating back to the late 20th century. Crafted with hand-spun organic wool on a wool foundation, the rug features a traditional slit-weave technique that gives its geometric patterns a crisp, precise definition. A closer look reveals subtle shifts within the same colour blocks—a coveted effect known as abrash, which occurs naturally when wool is spun and dyed by hand in small, separate batches. The piece beautifully highlights a traditional Anatolian palette, creating watercolour-like transitions using dyes sourced from organic plants and vegetables like madder root, indigo, pomegranate skins, and wild chamomile. Every shape woven into this stunning kilim carries tribal significance: the central diamond grid represents the human eye, while the border pillars symbolize the Tree of Life, its upward-reaching branches expressing hope and longevity. Turkish Kilims are incredibly versatile pieces whether repurposed as an eye-catching wall hanging or used for its original purpose as a rug, either one would compliment any modern home. Please note due to this pieces age there are signs of wear and tear including minor holes and slight staining - please view the photographs provided to have a closer look.
