Here we have a traditional Japanese Nanbu Tekki (tetsubin) cast iron kettle, comes from the Iwate prefecture. Dating back to the Showa Period. This specific design, featuring a textured surface of small bumps is called “Arare” (hailstone) pattern. The Arare pattern isn't just a classic staple of Japanese metal work but it increases the kettles surface area, which helps to retain heat better than a smooth surface. Historically these kettles were used to boil water over a charcoal fire to which Purist believed that boiling water in uncoated iron mellows the water's taste and adds minerals. The most natural place for a Tetsubin is in the kitchen or dining area, however this particular piece would pair beautifully with natural textures like a light oak, linen books or company for a bonsai/ small succulent.
Unfortunately this Kettle does not hold water.
The dimensions are as follows: H: 20cm L: 20.5cm W: 19cm
