Description

This stunning Chinese trunk originated in the north of China, specifically the Shanxi region, in the mid 19th century. It is made from a mixture of hardwoods including elm, which gives it its robustness whilst also making it light enough to be easily portable. It also holds all of its original metalwork which can be seen through the handles and hinges. The quality of this chest is truly encapsulated in the artwork on the front with the various colours and patterns used. Also, the hand-painted illustrations on the front seem to showcase a scene from traditional Chinese opera known as Xiqu.

This chest was originally used by Chinese travelling operas for carrying clothes and props. Nowadays however, it can be used as a beautifully unique storage space in your home!

The dimensions of this chest are as follows: H - 115cm, D - 44cm, W - 58cm.
