Japanese Meiji Period Iron Tetsubin Kettle With Crane and Tortoise Details (2)
Here we have a traditional Japanese Tetsubin cast iron kettle, dating back to the Meiji Period (1868-1912). This beautiful piece has a cylindrical, slightly tapered body with a large, stationary arched iron handle. Taking a closer look at the iron lid, you can see the pinecone knob, a hallmark of traditional craftsmanship that serves both deep symbolic and practical purpose. The pinecone in Japanese culture is a powerful symbol of: endurance, longevity and eternal youth as the tree remains green and steadfast throughout harsh winters. The body features the pairing of a crane and tortoise which hold strong symbolic meaning including: enduring longevity, harmony of the universe and marital fidelity. This particular piece is very versatile, personally we would create a vintage tea station.
Unfortunately this item won't hold water.
The dimensions are as follows: H: 24cm L: 20.5cm W: 16cm
