Description

This beautiful piece of fabric originated in Japan in the 1920s. It is a Kaya which is a mosquito net. It would have been used predominantly in the summer to keep mosquitos and small bugs away. It was hand-woven from hemp fibres and has been indigo dyed. This netting also has an interesting little green patch sewed onto it. The weaving left tiny spaces which allowed wind to pass through, but prevented bugs and mosquitos.

Nowadays, this net can be used as wall art; it looks stunning with natural light shining through it.

The dimensions of this are as follows: H - 181cm, W - 98cm.
