This stunning textile originated in Japan within the Showa period. It was handwoven using hemp and was dyed with kakishibu, which is unripe persimmon tannin. Kakishibu was originally used for is preservative qualities, making it the perfect material for bags. Due to the age of this piece, there are areas with fraying, holes etc. and some white patches have been added too. We believe that this only adds to the rustic beauty of this piece. There is visible text and we could make out 'Defatted Soya Flour', suggesting the original use of this bag.
Nowadays, this bag would make a fantastic statement piece in any contemporary home!
The dimensions are as follows: H - 99cm, W - 111cm.
