Here we have a beautiful Tibetan scroll holder, dating back to the late 19th century. Historically Tibetan scroll holders had numerous purposes, primarily used to transport, protect and store sacred paper or parchment scrolls such as Buddhist sutras, mantras or protective religious charts. The body has a distinct aged patina showing a blend of silver plating over a copper base. Friction wear over time has exposed darker tones in the recessed areas, which highlights perfectly the relief work. The exterior has been decorated using repousse artistry, an ancient metalworking technique where a malleable sheet of metal are shaped by hammering it from the reverse side to create intricate designs. The entire cylinder is split into distinct horizontal registers, each heavily embossed with traditional foliate scrolls, acanthus leaf variations and stylized floral motifs. This stunning piece would compliment any modern home, particularly repurposed as an incense stick storage or a time capsule.
The dimensions are as follows: H - 6cm L - 36cm W - 6cm
